Food and Beverage Centrifuges
Food and beverage centrifuges are used to clarify, separate, and recover valuable product components while meeting hygienic and cleanability requirements. In production environments where product quality, yield, and uptime are tightly linked, centrifugal separation provides a compact, continuous method for removing fine suspended solids, separating phases, and handling process variability.
What Centrifuges Do in Food & Beverage Lines
Disc-stack centrifuges (clarifiers/separators) accelerate separation by using a stacked-disc bowl geometry that increases separation area and enables efficient solid–liquid or liquid–liquid separation. In clarification duties, the goal is to remove particles and sediments from process liquids so the product stream is cleaner and more stable for downstream processing.
Common Processing Uses
Brewery: Clarification and recovery applications where controlling yeast/solids and minimizing oxygen pickup can be critical to flavor stability and yield.
Dairy: Cream separation/standardization and clarification duties, typically using self-cleaning, hygienic separator designs that support CIP-driven operations and reduced water use.
Juice (including citrus): Clarification and de-pulping, especially in high-solids fruit processing where continuous solids discharge and gentle handling help maintain consistent specifications.
Why Hermetic / Low-Oxygen Designs Matter
For oxygen-sensitive products (beer, wine, juices, and certain extracts), hermetic or hydro-hermetic feed concepts are used to reduce oxygen pickup and shear, helping preserve aroma and quality while improving process control.
How to Specify the Right Centrifuge
For the most accurate recommendation, provide your application (beer/dairy/juice), target flow rate, solids loading and particle size profile, temperature/viscosity range, CIP and hygienic requirements, and your primary KPI (clarity, yield recovery, oxygen pickup control, or high-solids handling). SECO supports food and beverage separation needs as a full-service distributor, including parts and service support.
