CH 200 P/Con Centrifuge

Medium Capacity 3-phase solids-ejecting centrifuge for chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

The Alfa Laval centrifuges for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries are available in many different sizes and configurations, each one designed and adapted to the widely varying separation tasks encountered. A new range of separators for these industries is developed with the focus on high separation performance and high corrosion resistance.

With a feed flow capacity of up to 25 m3/h (110 US gpm)* and very high solids handling capability the CH 200 P/Con is ideal for the tough conditions common in the chemical industry. It is a unit separating two non-miscible liquid phases, at the same time providing automatic intermittent discharge of solids with high dry matter content.

* Actual capacity depends on application

The CH 200 P/Con Ex1 and CH 200 P/Con Ex2 are ATEX approved for use in Zones 1 and 2, respectively. The CH 200 P/Con Ex1 version is designed for inert gas blanketing. A non-ATEX version is also available.

Applications

The CH 200 P/Con is used for separating two non-miscible liquid phases, at the same removing suspended solids with particle sizes from approximately 0.5 to 700 µm from liquids having lower densities than the solids. The solids content in the feed is normally in the range of 0.1–10% by volume, but may be higher.

CH 200 P and CH 200 Con are used for cleaning a light liquid phase and a heavy liquid phase.

Because the CH 200 P/Con is designed to be flexible, it performs equally well in the different conditions met with in most processes.

Special features

The CH 200 P/Con is designed for variable frequency drive (VFD) that provides benefits such as gentle acceleration of the separator bowl with low starting current and less load on the drive system.

The centrifuge has built-in paring discs for the separated liquids, eliminating the need for external pumps.

The sliding bowl bottom is fitted with an easily exchangeable erosion liner for protection against possible abrasive solids. Replaceable port liners protect the discharge ports of the bowl body.

Standard design

The bowl is mounted on top of the spindle, inside the space formed by the upper part of the frame, the solids collecting cover and the frame hood. The feed and liquid discharge system also rests on this structure. All metallic parts that come in contact with the process liquid are made of high- grade stainless steel. The bowl casing is jacketed for cooling and sound dampening. Also the solids collecting chute is water-cooled.

The CH 200 P/Con is equipped with sensors to monitor the bowl speed and vibration level. Fitted flushing nozzles allow for cleaning both under and at the top of the bowl, as well as in the sludge outlet to keep the machine clean.

The discharge volume is adjustable. Together with the timer- based triggering system it ensures discharge of solids with high dry matter content, thus minimizing product losses.

Operating principles

The feed containing the liquid and solids is introduced into the rotating centrifuge bowl from the top (1) and accelerated in a distributor (2) before entering the disc stack (3). The separation takes place between the discs. The light phase moves towards the center of the bowl where it is pumped out under pressure by means of a built-in paring disc (4). The heavy liquid phase moves towards the periphery, flows over a top disc and is pumped out by means of a paring disc (5). The heavy solids phase is collected at the periphery of the bowl where it is discharged intermittently via the centrifuge cyclone. The solids discharge is controlled by hydraulic system below the separation space in the bowl, which at certain intervals forces the sliding bowl bottom (6) to drop down thus opening the solids ports (7) at the periphery of the bowl. The triggering system functions by outlet turbidity and/or timer.

Basic equipment

Each CH 200 P/Con comes complete with flameproof or non-flameproof electric motor, speed sensor, vibration sensor, vibration-dampening feet, set of tools and standard set of spares.

Options

The CH 200 P/Con is available with three gasket materials: nitrile, EPDM, EPDM (FDA compliant), or Viton rubber. Two different connections are available: DIN and ANSI. The disc stacks are available with four different disc spacings and two different diameters according to the separation task encountered. The frame can be delivered in two executions: painted or clad with stainless steel.

Optional extras

The CH 200 P/Con can be delivered as a complete fully automated system, including valve modules for process and service liquids, starter and control system. The Ex1 version is supplied with an inert gas system.
